What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. A small titanium post is placed in the jawbone, and once it has healed and bonded with the bone, a custom crown is attached on top.

Because the post sits in the bone like a natural root, an implant can help keep the jaw strong, and it does not rely on your neighboring teeth for support.

1. The implant post

A titanium post that acts as the new tooth root.

2. The abutment

A small connector that joins the post to the crown.

3. The crown (the restoration)

A custom, tooth-colored cap shaped to blend in with your smile.

Why Dental Implants

They look natural

A custom crown is matched to the size, shape, and shade of your other teeth.

They feel comfortable

Implants are fixed in place, so you can eat and speak with confidence.

They protect your jawbone

The post stimulates the bone where a tooth is missing, which helps prevent bone loss.

They spare your neighbors

Unlike a traditional bridge, an implant does not require shaving down healthy teeth.

With good care and regular checkups, implants are designed to last for many years.

Implant Options For Every Smile

Replace one tooth

A single implant and crown fill the gap without touching the teeth on either side.

Replace several teeth

A few implants can support a bridge, so you do not need one implant for every missing tooth.

Replace a full arch

Implants can anchor a full set of teeth for a more secure fit than traditional dentures.

Your Implant Journey, Step by Step

Here is what to expect, from your first visit to your finished smile.

1

A friendly consultation

Dr. Ahmad examines your mouth and takes X-rays to see whether an implant is a good fit.

2

Your personal plan

We explain your options, the timeline, and the cost in plain language before you decide anything.

3

Placing the implant

Your implant is placed in one short visit. The area is numbed, a small opening is made in the gum, the titanium post is set into the jawbone and the gum is closed so it can heal.

4

Healing

Over the following weeks to months, the post bonds with your jawbone. We check in along the way.

5

Your new tooth

Your custom crown is made and fitted to match your smile. Time to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

Dental implants questions, answered

How long do dental implants last?

With good care and regular checkups, implants are designed to last for many years, often decades. The crown may need replacing sooner because of normal wear.

Placement is done with numbing, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Some soreness afterward is common, and we give you clear instructions to manage it.

It varies from person to person. Healing after placement can take a few months before the final crown, and we will give you a timeline at your consultation.

Often yes, but the bone may have changed over time. An exam and X-rays will show what is possible.

Some plans cover part of the cost and many do not, so coverage varies. Call (361) 878-5628 and we will help you check your benefits.
